The Writing Life

May 15, 2017July 11, 20175 Comments

Today I started my new job – as a full time writer. Instead of fitting in my writing and editing, plotting and promotion into my Writing Wednesdays, and the evenings and weekends, it’s now my day job. No longer do I need to haul myself out of bed, put on vaguely presentable clothes and go … Continue reading The Writing Life

It has been so springlike today! 🌼 Even though I have been editing inside, I am so happy it’s staying lighter later and the wind isn’t quite as cutting. ☀️ I can’t wait until it’s warm enough to sit on the deck, and writing, reading and editing can happen out there instead. 📖 I cannot take credit for this beautiful bunch of snowdrops - I saw them at Blickling Hall last week. 🌷
I bought The Familiars for a lovely friend a few weeks ago, and at the time resisted getting a copy myself, but that didn’t last very long. 🙈 Has anyone read this? What did you think? I’m in love with the cover. 🦊
I’m in love with this cosy-looking book nook. Sadly it doesn’t belong to me, but belongs to the wonderful Blickling Hall in Norfolk. Which books would you put in this bookshelf if this was your house? 🏡 📚💕
Welcome to The Puppet Show. 😱 I have just finished this seriously good thriller by M W Craven, and I’m already desperate to read the second book in the series. 📖 Washington Poe is an unforgettable protagonist with an unforgettable name, and is a great rogue cop who sidesteps (or stomps over) rules to get results. With original, intriguing supporting characters - especially the wonderful Tilly Bradshaw - a beautiful Cumbrian backdrop and a gruesome, twisty original crime to solve, I have been properly gripped by this book. 🔥 I did work out who the killer was pretty early on, and feel a bit smug about that, but it didn’t lessen my enjoyment of the story one little bit. 🤗 Very happy, on this sunny Sunday afternoon, to have discovered a new crime series to get obsessed with. Hurrah for Washington Poe and his unconventional policing. 🥰
I’m spending a lot of time this weekend with my beloved Kindle. (I love the wallpapers, which I think of as posh end papers). 💜 I started reading The Puppet Show by M W Craven last night and I’m already hooked. It’s got a great central character called Washington Poe, it’s set in Cumbria, and it’s definitely not for the faint hearted. 😵 What are you reading this weekend? 📖
My latest second-hand book purchase, which matches the beautiful blue sky in Norfolk today. (There were daffodils and crocuses on our walk, and the sun actually felt hot! ☀️ When I was little I used to get Peter Underwood books out of the library and read them late at night, then have ghostly nightmares, then my mum would confiscate them from me and take them BACK to the library and the cycle would begin again. 👻 Hopefully I’m too old for this to give me nightmares, and I’m especially excited because it includes Blickling and Felbrigg Halls in This Fine County. 📖
